Sonya Massey

Longtime Dripping Springs resident Sonya Massey had been praying for an answer to the unsafe wheelchair ramp at the front door of her home. Sonya had fallen several times when navigating it in her motorized chair. Hometown Missions knocked on Sonya’s door after noticing the existing ramp and asked if they could build her a new safe wheelchair ramp. Sonya, with tears of joy and prayers of thanks, was very happy to have Hometown Missions and volunteers come out and construct a ramp that best served her needs.

Hometown Missions quickly reached out to the Dripping Springs community, organizing a work day to remove the unsafe ramp and build a new ramp for Sonya. Volunteers answered the call on short notice and on Oct. 1, constructed a larger and safer ramp.

What We Did

  • Removed the 6’ ramp

  • Removed 4’ X 4’ porch

  • Constructed a 6’ X 6’ porch with a metal roof off the front door

  • Constructed a 36’ ramp off the front porch

  • Laid 40 cubic feet of road base for the driveway up to the ramp

  • Adapted and modified old porch and ramp for the back door as an emergency exit

  • Cleared brush, cut up piles of downed trees, and had picked up for disposal

Identifying a need for a safe wheelchair ramp on the back door of the home as well, Hometown Missions will be scheduling another work day soon to construct a second ramp.
