Sarah’s Story
Hometown Missions was introduced to Sarah and her living conditions late fall of 2022. She was living in an incomplete home with no heating and poor cooling and no running water. The home was a joint project with her father. Sadly, a little over 10 years ago Sarah’s father passed away and the home has been incomplete since then. Sarah has been managing with help from her mother who lives next door and other non-profits in the area.
Since last fall, Hometown Missions has been working with Sarah on several projects both in the home and around her life. This neighbor in need was an opportunity for Hometown Missions and Habitat for Humanity to work together. It is a budding partnership that hopefully will lead to some life changing projects for families in Dripping Springs and for the community. Working with Sarah and prioritizing needs, Hometown and Habitat have each done significant work in the home to improve Sarah’s living conditions. Water has been restored with a new pump. The bathroom was completely remodeled, roof leaks repaired, a new ceiling fan, and window AC unit were installed. All these efforts have shown Sarah that people care and that there is hope for the future. Sarah’s progress and positive changes have been observed with much joy and happiness from folks in the DS community that know her.
Hometown Missions with an opportunity from an organizational friend and volunteer provided a more reliable vehicle for Sarah so that she can continue to earn a living as a delivery driver in the Dripping Springs area. Some furniture donations have improved her living conditions as well. We still have work to do on Sarah’s home, sealing in the room with sheetrock and insulation, some electrical upgrades to enable the installation of window unit splits (heat and cold), a mini kitchen area, and flooring. All these efforts will provide Sarah with a safe and healthy living space that will continue her progress and build self-confidence as she engages with her Dripping Spring community.
